Rates

The Northern California Nanotechnology Center is a formal recharge facility at UC Davis. The Professional Staff Rate Advisory Group and the Northern California Nanotechnology Center Committee have set the rates for the current fiscal year for the cleanroom (1224, 1246, 1249, and 1254 Kemper Hall). These rates partially repay the direct costs such as salaries and supplies associated with the facility.

To encourage use of the labs there has been set a per user ceiling on charges. If a PI sponsors multiple users, the rate is applied to each user.

Please contact the Lab Manager for a rate schedule.

Recharges

Before access is granted to a user, you must supply the facility with a current, valid recharge account number and your signature authorizing expenditures from that account. Your recharge account will be billed at the end of each month for the accumulated hourly use of each user. If a user reaches the maximum amount before quarter's end, no further charges will accrue.

The hourly use of each student user is monitored by the coded access system through which users gain access to the Facility. This system requires each user to enter their unique code each time they enter or leave the Facility. If a user fails to enter their access code upon either entry or exit, they will generate a recharge for 4 hours of Facility use. Any "error access charges" will be billed as an additional charge beyond the quarterly maximum.

In addition, excess use of chemicals and supplies may also generate a recharge.

Liability

As your faculty co-sponsor will explain to you, you will share residual liability for the actions or omissions of your sponsored user. That is, you may have a share in the replacement cost of equipment damaged by your user.

User Access

For your sponsored user to gain access to the facility, he or she must read the introductory and advanced facility manuals, view two safety videos, complete the "Request for Facility Access" form with the required signatures, and attend an orientation with the lab manager. To gain access to individual tools, he or she must receive training and certification specific to the tool from the "superuser" or the lab manager. If your user wishes to bring chemicals into the lab, there is also a special procedure.

Questions

You may address questions concerning the billing process and any technical questions concerning the use of the lab and its equipment to the Lab Manager.
